SpaceX launches Falcon Heavy - world's most powerful rocket

Image
Luciana and I watched the launch this afternoon. It was so exciting! Apollo 11 , that went to the moon, launched from the same site in 1969. This was even more amazing. Two of the first stage rocket boosters landed upright back on Earth at the same time at the Kennedy Space Center launching Pad. That was incredible to see. The spacecraft will journey through Earth’s Van Allen radiation belt over the coming hours. If it succeeds, Mr. Musk’s sports car will head away from Earth onto an elliptical orbit around the sun that extends as far out as Mars’s orbit.

I found a few cute things to add to my Luciana collection at the US Space and Rocket Center gift shop. The cute small wooden posters (Blast Off and Mars 2032) on ribbons The Spaces Camp stickers and bracelet. The Mars Book (Luciana's accessories on on the far right. Her visitor center accessories are next to them on the left) Can you see the ruler on the right?

Celebrate STEM and meet an astronaut - Part 3

After the event there was a dinner with astronaut Jan Davis.  There were about 75 people who attended the dinner.  After the dinner Astronaut Davis told us about her experiences to become an astronaut.  She did not get accepted 3 times but she never gave up and finally was selected to be an astronaut.  See her amazing Bio .  Dr. Davis became an astronaut in June 1987. Her initial technical assignment was in the Astronaut Office Mission Development Branch, where she provided technical support for Shuttle payloads. She then served as a CAPCOM in Mission Control communicating with Shuttle crews for seven missions. After her first space flight, Dr. Davis served as the Astronaut Office representative for the Remote Manipulator System (RMS), with responsibility for RMS operations, training, and payloads. After her second space flight, she served as the Chairperson of the NASA Education Working Group and as Chief for the Payloads Branch, which provided Astrona...

Celebrate STEM and meet an astronaut - Part 2

Image
The main event was in the Saturn V Rocket Building. There were tables set up in the walkway between all the amazing exhibits. During the 3 hours we had time to do some of the fun activities and also look at many of the exhibits. Luciana has a great time but we have to come back to see more. I read an article online that there were about 1600 people registered for the events. It was very crowded for awhile but everyone was having so much fun. There was so many fun activities to do, like making astronaut pudding, taking a photo with a Space Camp blowup, remote controlling robots and painting! Rhea Seddon, a former astronaut, also had a book signing there. I took lots of photos! We bought Rhea Seddon's book "Go for Orbit" about one of America's first women astronauts in Space. Then we got to meet her!  Making space food! Making bracelets for ourselves and for Luciana! Making Galaxy Paintings  Rocket Launchers ...

On Sunday we made the trip to Huntsville, Al to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center for the big event inspired by Luciana Vega! We only had a couple hours before the event started at 2 PM. So I took some cute pictures of Luciana in the gift shop and we walked quickly through the main exhibit. We didn't have time for the movies. But we're planning on returning in the summer!  There were lots of books all about Mars!  Amazing and beautiful Posters Luciana dolls, her book and the visitor center accessory set for purchase!  More Luciana!  Interesting science and engineering exhibits

American Girl Accessories and things

Image
I love all my American Girl accessories and other small things that go with my dolls. But I want to see, enjoy and play with them and not keep them in a box.  So Mommy said we could go look for a shelf to put them on. What we found was so perfect. It's not just a shelf but many different sized cubby holes that keep similar things together. I've been organizing and reorganizing all my AG accessories until they were all in perfect places. But once I get something new I'll have to reorganize again! There is a special area for Nanea and one for Luciana. I even put their pictures in their special areas. The small cubby in the middle is for other cute things and a shelf on top for my AG books! We put in some small nails to hang things like their purses and bags. I tried to give Nanea and Luciana the same amount of space. (You probably noticed the Hawaii postcards) On the top shelf are accessories from Nanea's Hula outfit and a cute hula doll! Below are hair a...

Luciana's Space Suit

Image
I was so excited when Luciana's space suit arrived earlier today.  It's so interesting and looks so great on her. This is so cool! Like she is ready for her EVA. That means Extra Vehicular Activity.  A space walk or a walk on the moon or Mars. "EVA" is so much easier to say. The space suit comes with a complete astronaut suit and real patches.  A helmet with a clear visor that flips up. An equipment pack with faux knobs and dials that she needs for her first mission, along with authentic ID patches Soft space gloves and a special mirror for her wrist that allows her to read the instruments on her equipment pack Durable space boots   A booklet explaining how space suits work  I'm going to blog all about the details of the space suit next.
